Harvest of sorghum, millet begins in Abs as part of efforts to cultivate hard lands, ensure food security
Hajjah – Saba:
Abs Multipurpose Agricultural Cooperative Society in Hajjah province has officially launched the harvest of sorghum and millet in difficult terrains, including hard lands and sand dunes.
This initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to promote agricultural growth and self-sufficiency in Yemen, especially in regions like Abs, which are known for cultivating these crops.
At the event, Hajjah governor Hilal al-Sufi and Chairman of the Yemen News Agency, Saba, Nasr al-Din Amer, highlighted the importance of this project in line with the vision of the Leader of the Revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi.
The goal is to cultivate challenging lands with essential crops, particularly grains, contributing to the region’s food security and agricultural development.
Province undersecretary Ibrahim Zaid emphasized the strategic use of hard lands and sand dunes for planting suitable crops, noting that 80,000 acres of land have been dedicated to sorghum and millet cultivation.
This marks a significant step toward achieving greater agricultural productivity in Abs region, with future plans to expand cultivation efforts.
Executive Director of the Abs Association Majid Odhabi explained that this initiative is part of a broader plan to foster an agricultural renaissance in the area, focusing on grains as key crops to drive local food security and sustainability.
